"Otouto (About Her Brother)", the latest movie directed by Yoji Yamada and sponsored by Sumitomo Corcoration, was released on January 30 and is showing in theaters nationwide to critical acclaim.

It is a modern tale with laughter and tears that asks what ties and separation of family are all about. Ginko (Sayuri Yoshinaga) has run a pharmacy on the corner of a local shopping street in Tokyo and raised her only daughter Koharu (Yu Aoi) by herself. She has led a peaceful life until her long-lost younger brother Tetsuro (Tsurube Shofukutei) suddenly appears and makes a terrible scene at Koharu's wedding party. Ginko has always taken his side so far, but an incident happens and Ginko finally tells him that he is no longer part of the family. The latter half of the movie deals with the theme of caring for a dying family member, and reaches a touching climax.

Sumitomo Corporation has supported nine films directed by Yoji Yamada, starting with "Gakko (School)" released in 1993, and other movies including Japan Academy Award-winning "Tasogare Seibei (The Twilight Samurai)" and Award nominee "Kabei (Our Mother)" , whose humanity and pureness touched many people's hearts.

"Otouto (About Her Brother)" was chosen as the official closing film of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival, opening in February 11, 2010, and Director Yoji Yamada himself will receive Berlinale Kamera, an award that honors film personalities or institutions for their significant contribution to the film industry. People across borders will once again see the ties of Japanese families, which Yoji Yamada depicted in his movies series "Gakko (School)" and "Otoko wa Tsurai yo (It's Tough Being a Man)."
