"Otouto (About Her Brother)", the latest movie directed by Yoji Yamada and sponsored by Sumitomo Corcoration, was released on January 30 and is showing in theaters nationwide to critical acclaim.
It is a modern tale with laughter and tears that asks what ties and separation of family are all about. Ginko (Sayuri Yoshinaga) has run a pharmacy on the corner of a local shopping street in
Sumitomo Corporation has supported nine films directed by Yoji Yamada, starting with "Gakko (School)" released in 1993, and other movies including Japan Academy Award-winning "Tasogare Seibei (The Twilight Samurai)" and Award nominee "Kabei (Our Mother)" , whose humanity and pureness touched many people's hearts.
"Otouto (About Her Brother)" was chosen as the official closing film of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival, opening in February 11, 2010, and Director Yoji Yamada himself will receive Berlinale Kamera, an award that honors film personalities or institutions for their significant contribution to the film industry. People across borders will once again see the ties of Japanese families, which Yoji Yamada depicted in his movies series "Gakko (School)" and "Otoko wa Tsurai yo (It's Tough Being a Man)."
