United Cinemas Co., Ltd.,a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, cosponsored a Pink Ribbon event with LaLa TV (*) on December 17th.

The Pink Ribbon is a campaign initiated in America with the hope that informing women about the importance of early detection and early treatment may decrease the number of women dying from breast cancer.

During the event, a documentary program produced by LaLa TV that introduced the lives of three women fighting breast cancer was presented on the cinema screen. A talk show was also held with a musician, Ms. Kaori Kawamura, who was featured in the documentary program. Ms. Kawamura developed breast cancer in 2004, but resumed her musical activities following an operation and chemotherapy. Based on her own experience, she advised participants, "Don't assume that it is somebody else's problem. Please get an early screening."

Only this October, she disclosed the recurrence of her cancer in her blog. Still, her message is positive; "What can I do at this moment to be my own natural self? This is what I am thinking afresh when performing." Her forward-looking attitudes drew a storm of applause from throughout the entire hall.

As the second stage of the event, a preview of "Time Lost, Time Found" will be presented in January. The film portrays a female doctor with recurrent breast cancer, who is torn by having to choose between "having a baby" and "having treatment." Through events like these, United Cinemas continuously supports the Pink Ribbon campaign.
