The seminar was held three times. Although it was during the summer vacation, seats were fully booked on each occasion.
Participants made their reservations in advance and received a ticket and pamphlet on arrival.
Original short films introducing each business unit were shown in the style of movie trailers.
Sumitomo Corporation held a graduate recruiting event at the United Cinema Toyosu on September 25, 2008. The two-hour event, titled "Sumitomo Corporation Recruiting Team Presents Self-Produced IMAGING ART & TALK EVENT," featured short promotional films about Sumitomo Corporation's eight business units, presentations by recruiting staff and more and represented a shift in concept from conventional recruiting events.
On the day, the theater was overflowing with casually dressed students. In keeping with the movie theme of the event, students were issued with entrance tickets resembling those given to cinema-goers, pamphlets and drink tickets.
"I've never been to a seminar held at a movie theater before," commented one undergraduate. "From the way the seminar was planned, I get the impression that the company is open to new ideas."
Another said, "This seminar improved my impression of trading companies because I got the kind of information that I can never get at large-scale seminars."
United Cinemas is a chain of cinema complexes with 20 locations all over Japan. The company is operated by Sumitomo Corporation under its retail division. Thanks to the support of United Cinemas, in allowing the event to be held in one of their theaters, providing attendees with the full sensory experience, the day was a success.
