The AgriScience Department sells agricultural materials around the world, including seeds and fertilizers, with a focus on crop protection products produced by Japanese manufacturers. We have been strengthening our sales network, particularly in Europe, the CIS, and Latin America. In Europe, following the establishment of a sales company, SUMMIT-AGRO HUNGARIA Ltd. Co., in Hungry in 1992, a series of sales companies has been founded in Poland, France, Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Russia, demonstrating the sound development of the network. Currently, ten sales companies, including joint ventures, are operating in 11 countries.

Our success can be accounted for by our sincere commitment to agriculture from the farmer's standpoint, as represented by the concept that "satisfying farmers, who are the users of our products, is the very basis of our business" (Michinobu Yugen, General Manager). In Europe, where pest control management systems based on IPM (Integrated Pest Management) principles that aim at sustainable agro-environment protection prevail, our endeavors to promote products with low environmental impact, such as pheromone technology products,* are highly appreciated. In addition, rising food prices and the need for increased food production caused by the increasing demand for biofuel exerts a favorable influence on our business.

We intend to further reinforce our operations in Western Europe and Latin America, and are also planning to expand into North America. To realize our aim of becoming "a provider of integrated solutions to agricultural issues for farmers" (Takeshi Ishihara, staff member), our activities are evolving and expanding.

*Pheromone technology products: By inhibiting pheromone-mediated communication, pheromone technology products exercise their pest-controlling effects only on targeted insects. These products are highly esteemed because of their "low environmental impact," having no adverse influence on the surrounding environment, such as the soil, and living creatures--including human beings.
