Answer
Tell us about your work.
I am involved in commercial planning and marketing activities for various product lines including Sumitomo-brand tires, superabsorbent polymer used for disposable diapers, non-ferrous materials and telecommunications equipment. It is my job to negotiate with our customers and suppliers, which means having a good understanding of their needs and expectations. It's a very important and dynamic role and that's why I find it interesting.
Every day I have to swing into action to seize new opportunities, which keeps me busy. But there's always something going on, and that's definitely part of the attraction.

Which part of your work for Sumitomo Corporation do you find most worthwhile?
When I started working for Sumitomo Corporation, I was surprised to learn what a wide variety of different areas the company is engaged in. Everything was new to me and I was on a steep learning curve.
With a lot of effort, I gradually got the hang of things, but I still have so many things to do, including developing new business related with pipelines, OCTG and steel, which are essential infrastructure for the oil industry, and setting up a new network of contacts.
I still have a lot to learn and at the same time I have to work on developing an even deeper understanding of the market and our customers. It's challenging and at the same time worthwhile.
Tell us about your hobby, ecuavolley.
Ecuavolley is a traditional sport in Ecuador and is similar to volleyball. Each team has three players, who have to hit the ball over a net positioned about 2.8 meters above the ground. The first team to get 15 points wins the game. Until a while ago, I played once or twice a week with my family and friends. It's a lot of fun, in spite of you always have really red hands and arms after a game, because the soccer ball is hard and you have to hit it with your hands or arms.

In Ecuador, ecuavolley is the second most popular sport following soccer. It is played not only grass but also on clay or concrete courts.

Tell us about your objectives.
I got married five years ago and my objective in my private life is to build and have a happy home. As for my work, I want to become a good leader by accumulating more knowledge and by improving my communication and management skills.
I try to keep a good balance between private life and professional aspect, because they are both important aspects of my daily life.
