- Please tell me about your job.
- With six co-workers working with me, I lead the finance and accounting department and am taking care of monetary issues of two companies, Summit Motors and Summit Auto. They both deal with vehicles, but the former specializes in importing while the latter does merchandising and dealing. The work normally starts around past seven in the morning and finishes at four or five in the evening, and in Fridays we can go home on two in the afternoon. When the accounting term comes to an end we get very busy, but I enjoy my work very much especially when it comes to negotiating. Dealing with somebody with an authoritative manner does not lead to a good result, and what’s important is how to construct trust with them and to communicate with them like a friend. I feel the adrenaline flowing in me when I could benefit the company with my negotiation skill!
- Please tell me about your experience.
- I have experienced working for Slovenian companies before joining Sumitomo. As a member of the commercial department, I went to many places in the world; Iran to Jordan, Korea to Taiwan, Egypt, Kenya...I was hopping from one place to another. The work was worthwhile, but as time passed by, I began to think that I want to spend more time in Ljubljana, the city I live in, and I decided to change my job. Right now I spend most of my work time within the office, and bank may be the place where I "travel" the most. It may seem surprising, but my career of working as a sales person is helping me in the finance and accounting job too. To draw the answer 4 in mathematics, you don’t always have to add 2 and 2, but instead, 1 and 3 can also lead to the same answer. The same thing can be said about work; there are many options on how to solve the problem. I am proud of my experience that led me to have broad vision.
With my bosses of Summit Motors Ljubljana
- How do you feel like working for Sumitomo Corporation Group?
- I like the way how Sumitomo has company culture and philosophy that is very different from what European companies have. The company requires us to report about our work in details and sometimes it feels too much, but my colleagues have very high capability of thinking logically and I think I am being able to experience a very fruitful time in my career. To tell you the truth, there is another reason why I like working here. There are many foreign-affiliated companies in Slovenia, but most of them are European companies. When I tell people that I work for Japanese company which is very rare in the country, they are always amazed. I think working for Japanese company is very cool!
With department co-workers
- How do you enjoy your spare time?
- I treasure spending time with my friends. In Slovenia, people often hold home parties and my wife and I are not the exception. We invite many friends over to our house and enjoy having conversation. Sometimes I take part in the cooking work. Also in the summer, my wife and I take a 140km trip to visit Croatian coast. When we sit down on the seaside and talk with the local friends in the beautiful seaside, we feel happy and satisfied.
I spent a new year celebration from 2008 to 2009 with my friends in Dajla, Croatia.
