- What kind of business are you engaged in?
- For three years after joining Sumitomo Corporation I have worked as a sales staff for IT&Telecom department. Since 1999 I have been working in the administration department and being engaged in IT planning, general affairs, and human resources. There are about 70 people in Moscow office, and 120 is the total number of people working for Sumitomo in CIS area. Members of the administration (business support department) in Moscow are administrating all the offices in CIS; imagine how busy it is! However, the atmosphere of the office is very friendly and comfortable, and the work itself is quite interesting, I can get involved in various kinds of work that are related to the administration of the company. I like my work very much.

- How did you come to work in Sumitomo?
- After graduating FROM university, I remained there for a while as a researcher and a tutor of civil engineering. At that time, our country was going through the last days of the Soviet era, and the harsh days made me think of starting my career in company. After working for resource and energy company in Great Britain for around five years, I came back to Russia and joined Sumitomo Corporation. What made me get to know about Sumitomo was an article in a business magazine which I was reading in the overnight train trip from St. Petersburg to Moscow for an interview. The article was not quite a positive one (copper trading incident), however did not give me any negative impression about the company. In fact, the scale of the company astonished and impressed me. This was when I became eager to join Sumitomo. Right now as a member of the company, I am amazed how the company learned from the history and has gained sustainability as well as the strength to grow.

- What are common to three hobbies?
- Exactly! I am a history-addict having big interest in the tide of history. Every country has its own history, and even in the same country, the details completely differ between each era. I want to gain knowledge, little by little, and build my own impression about each country's history. I am especially interested in the history of Christianity, and the trip to Mount Athos (*1) in Greece which I made in June 2009 was something that I could never forget. I went up the hill to 2km altitude and prayed to the God in the monastery at the top of the hill. It was a long and severe trip, yet very satisfying at the same time. I haven't decided where I want to go next; I just want to go around the world and gratify my curiosity.
After 2-days climbing, I pointed to St. Mountain and said, "I've made it …"
- What is your dream?
- My dream is to keep on having a stable job while having ability to spend time with my family. Giving my children a better life and someday becoming a happy grandfather is what I have set as a goal for the future.
(*1) Mount Athos (Aton): A holy mountain in Greece with approximately 20 monasteries and 1,400 inhabiting monks, forbidding women and children's entrance. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage in 1988. Numerous antiquities such as books and mass tools which represent the Byzantine style and the beautiful nature sights of the canyon and the shoreline are very famous.
