Answer
What are your main business assignments?
I take charge of goods imported into China and other general distribution affairs regarding product transportation and storage within China. The transportation routes I am in charge of involve shipments via sea, air and ground. Storage duties revolve around inventory management. Many products we import are from Japan. Other import partners are the United States and other Asian countries. Main items we handle are steel and chemical products. The product item that yields the largest revenue is steel pipes. Among chemical products are hazardous items if they are mishandled. Shipping and storing these product items require special care in terms of safety and compliance with law.

In August 2007, I visited river people in Zhejiang Province. Here you can enjoy a special taste that emanates in the area.

Where did you learn your Japanese language skills?
I started learning Japanese when I was in fourth grade at elementary school. The elementary school I attended is affiliated with a foreign-language university in Beijing. I continued to study Japanese at university and eventually majored in it. By the time I graduated, I thought my Japanese language skills were proficient.
Upon graduating from university, I entered a Japanese-affiliated company. At the company, I was once asked to act as a translator for Japanese guests and the Chinese hosts at a business negotiation round. But I was not able to convey the meaning of what was said at the business negotiations due to a lack of knowledge on my side concerning the business matter under discussion. Because of my poor translation skills, the negotiation round ended in confusion, and a person in the other party got so angry that he threw his memo toward my face after crumpling them.
Since this incident, I have endeavored to build up my knowledge on business fields I am in charge of, while listening to the views and opinions of others in charge as well as those working on the business frontline. I am also trying to learn more about the Japanese and Chinese cultures to deepen my understanding of more difficult idiomatic phrases and expressions. Convinced that building relations of mutual trust with potential business partners is important, I make efforts every day to refine my Japanese-language ability, with the aim of one day becoming an expert.

I know you like to travel. What kind of places do you enjoy traveling to?
I like traveling around China. I was born and grew up in Beijing. After graduating from university, I worked as a travel guide in Beijing for two years. Now, I like going on family trips. I have visited various sightseeing spots in China, including historical sites and places known for their scenic beauty. If I was asked to name one sightseeing spot in China I think people should visit, I would have to say Beijing!
