* Job :: Monthly financial reporting to Sumitomo Corporation (Tokyo) and accounting support to business departments.

Please tell us about your job.: I am responsible to perform monthly financial reporting of Sumitomo Australia to Sumitomo Corporation (Tokyo). Each accounting staff is in charge for a number of business units, as for me, I look after the automotive, general products and administration departments. My daily tasks include processing payments to suppliers, receipts from customers and maintain a clean and accurate financial data.

What brought you to work for Sumitomo Australia?: I came to Australia over 10 years ago to study at the university, and have been living here since then. When I was doing my postgraduate study, I met a girl and we became friends. After finishing our study, she started working Sumitomo Australia as an accountant. Not long after that she informed me that she is returning to her home country and that the company was looking for an accountant to replace her. I know Sumitomo is a well-known, reputable multinational company so I was very interested to join the global network. Thankfully, the interview went well so here I am!

What do you think about your Japanese co-workers?: My first impression of my Japanese colleagues is that they are hardworking people. I also learnt that they have admirable commitment and loyalty to the company they work for. Most of the Japanese staff in my company are expatriates so their first language is not English. I believe it must be difficult for them to come to a new country with their own language & cultures. However, they put in very good efforts in adapting to the new environment and I believe they did really well!
