Answer
What kind of job are you engaged in?
I am currently managing and supervising the treasury department operations. The work includes budgeting and planning of the treasury department, overseeing of operations involving trade finance, payment processing, foreign exchange risk management, corporate finance and other treasury related advisory services to the business units within the country and also to the affiliated companies. In order to carry out these tasks, continuous communications and coordination with people inside and outside of the company are essential.
From July 2009, I was also assigned as department manager of the human resources department. The work style is quite different from the one in the treasury department; frequent meetings and discussions are held, and sometimes I spend most of the work time away from my desk. I have many new things to learn in this challenging and exciting area.
What do you like about Sumitomo Corporation?
I like the atmosphere of the company, all our colleagues are always friendly and usually very understanding and management style has been open and not oppressive. It might be expressed as the culture of Sumitomo. When we are in a meeting or having a daily conversation, my colleagues tend to listen to what others are saying, without being offensive. Too much ingratiating must be avoided but arguing leads to nothing; how we hold our discussion makes me feel comfortable. Also, I appreciate how the company entrusts us and believed in our ability and allow us to complete our work with discretionary power.

Please tell me about your hobby.
Playing Mahjong with my friends or family was my favorite way of spending the spare time. Chinese Mahjong which we play has some differences between the one beloved in Japan, but the basic rules are very similar. It is fun and relaxing to sit and talk with someone close to you. However, Mahjong is a time consuming game, hence, I haven’t been doing it so often for the past few years. Instead, I love to spend time with my family, especially playing with my baby boy who was born in December 2008. It really gives me lots of joys and satisfaction whenever I succeeded in making him laugh.

When I succeeded in making the baby laugh, I feel a big satisfaction!

What’s your goal for the future?
I would like to become a leader who can give everybody the chance to excel. I want the staffs to create more value for the company as well as themselves. In order for my staff to do their best in their work, I need to provide precise directions and visions. I want to advance to the leader of an important functional group, or even to a higher position.
