Answer
What attracted you to Sumitomo Corporation?
Before joining Sumitomo Corporation Taiwan, I worked for a Taiwanese company in another field. However, I was interested in working for a foreign company, which would give me the opportunity to engage in global business and communicate with people from other countries. I began preparing for a career change and learned more about Sumitomo Corporation when a Japanese friend of mine described Sumitomo as "a big company that can offer you an active role in a wide range of fields." That is what mainly attracted me to the company.
What makes your job interesting and challenging?
My work in Living Related Department requires dealing with various kinds of commercial materials, and because it covers a wide range of areas, there are many things that I have to learn and understand. I do, however, get great pleasure when an article or product that I have researched from its earliest stages develops into a business.
What are your goals for the future?
I want to become more involved in establishing new business models, investments, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition to that, I would like to—and I think we need to—continue promoting localization. In order to increase the potential of local staff, I want to more actively educate and train, not only my team, but also other local staff in the Taipei office. I believe that by doing so, we will create a new business opportunity.
Which tourist and entertainment spots would you recommend in Taiwan?
There are more than twenty hot springs resorts and golf courses within an hour's drive from the center of Taipei. Because the country is small, it offers the attractive quality of leisure activities close to the heart of the city. Also, there are many night markets and street vendors in and around the city, providing delicious food. Shilin Night Market, considered the largest and most famous night market in Taipei, is bustling with people until after 1 or 2 a.m.
