How did you come to know about Sumitomo Corporation?: I first came to know about Sumitomo when I watched an educational television program in China that was sponsored by the Japanese company. I found the name of Sumitomo in a list of sponsors. At that time, it never occurred to me that I would later work for Sumitomo. Before entering the company, I heard from a friend of my father’s that Sumitomo Corporation is held in high esteem in Japan.

On a company trip, I visited the Old Town of Lijiang, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

How did you find work after joining Sumitomo Corporation?: I entered Sumitomo Corporation (Shanghai) after working for several Japanese logistics companies following my graduation from college. Currently I am working on logistics in general. The types of business assignments are new to me but I do draw on my past career experiences in carrying out my work. I therefore find a sense of fulfillment in my current role. Specific jobs assigned to me include ship and surface transportation arrangements. I also represent our company in negotiations with local shipping and logistics distributors.

What are your hobbies?: I like to travel. I have visited about half of China’s provinces through long years of my involvement in domestic distribution business. But visiting these places privately is totally different from visiting on a business trip. I like visiting new place -places I have yet to go on business–with my family and friends. Recently I went on a trip not only to domestic sightseeing spots but also to destinations in Southeast Asia, which was enjoyable because that gave me opportunities to experience something new. I also like to play basketball, which I have been playing since I was at elementary school. (Mr. Dong is 187 centimeters tall.) Yao Ming, a professional basketball player playing for an NBA team, hails from Shanghai, my home city. Recently, I have also developed an interest in swimming. I swim a lot. The Japanese-made goggles I wear when swimming are very useful because they are equipped with lenses for shortsightedness.

What is your main career goal?: I am aiming to become the leader of Sumitomo Corporation (China) Holding’s logistics team. I would like to become a master in the field of logistics.
