Answer
How did you come to know about Sumitomo Corporation.?
When I studied in Japan a long time ago, I had no knowledge about the company. It was after I went back to China that I came to know what a trading company even was and I developed an interest in the industry. One of the reasons I chose to work for Sumitomo Corporation rather than one of the other trading firms was the advice given by a Japanese friend of mine from the Kansai region, where our company is established.

Do you have any particular impressions of the work style at Japanese companies?
At Japanese companies, workers have a certain attitude in regard to how to get the work done. At companies in foreign countries, for example, the first thing workers will do for a certain project is to start implementing the project immediately, agreeing on details later—details need to be worked at different phases. At Japanese companies, workers will first devise detailed and meticulous plans. It is not easy to decide which style is good. But initially, I was quite surprised to see at Sumitomo Corporation that the project would not start until clear-cut targets were set.

What do you like most about Sumitomo Corporation?
What I like about the company is the work-life balance policy our its personnel affairs divisionHuman Resources Department has been promoting recently. Last year, I took a one-week vacation—my first since starting work at Sumitomo Corporation—and went on a family trip. Spending the week with my family after hectic and busy work days gave me a spiritual respite. Both work and family are important to me.

What are your career goals?
Needless to say, I will aggressively work for my assigned business section. Also, I would like to develop the ability to handle in-house management issues. I hope that I can contribute to the organic chemical division so that it can yield profit in a stable manner.
