Flying from Vladivostok on July 20, the day of the opening ceremony, aboard chartered aircraft to Plastun in Russia’s Maritime Province, passengers worried that heavy rain would make landing on Plastun airport’s unpaved, dirt runway impossible. However, passengers were greeted by clear skies upon approach to Plastun, making for a safe landing and allowing the opening ceremony to commence.

Under rainy skies, the party boards chartered aircraft bound for Plastun.

Green trees and sunny skies create a relaxed mood at Plastun airport.
At Terneyles, speeches by the president and chairman of the provincial congress followed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. After another ceremony at the new veneer mill in which brand-new machinery operated for the first time, reporters watched as production lines produced plywood panels before conducting interviews with factory officials.

Ribbon Cutting
Ribbon cutting is a logging method that cuts trees from virgin forests in rows at intervals of 20-30 meters. From above, the rows resemble ribbons and allow buds from fallen seeds to grow naturally among parent trees so that forests regenerate without the need for human tree planting efforts.
