The magnificent Andes stretch across the altiplano of Bolivia.
Japanese staff are battling challenges in a distant country in South America, at the San Cristobal mine, a world-class mineral deposit 4,000m above sea level.
The mine is the world’s sixth-largest producer of zinc and the third-largest producer of silver. The project is unique with Sumitomo Corporation holding a 100% stake in the mine.
To expand production and boost regional development, Sumitomo’s project members are working hard to overcome the challenges in partnership with Bolivian staff. The road has not been smooth; various difficulties have been overcome, but new ones await.
