Sumitomo Corporation has established a scholarship program to support the development of future leaders in developing nations throughout Asia.

In 2006, Sumitomo Corporation started a Japanese language class for junior high school students. The lessons are taught by an ex-employee of Sumitomo Corporation who has a national license to teach Japanese language. In addition to the language, many aspects of Japanese culture, including traditional children's games such as origami and cat's cradle are introduced.

In 2010 Sumitomo Corporation became a sponsor of a project for training doctors from developing countries, which is promoted and organized by the Japanese Council for Medical Training (JCMT) and operated by Tokyo’s Toranomon Hospital.
