Minera San Cristobal S.A. (MSC), a 100% subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation (President and CEO: Susumu Kato; Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; hereafter, "Sumitomo"), which owns the San Cristobal mine in Bolivia, acquired the following international management standards simultaneously on 10th of May, 2010; ISO9001 quality management system, ISO14001 environmental management system and OHSAS 18001 work health and safety (*1). It only took MSC one year to achieve the triple certification, which is a tremendous milestone for a world class mine.

 

 

Before acquiring the above certifications, MSC put an effort into reviewing business flows in process management areas, such as safety, operations and environment, and incorporated them into the construction of its Business Management System. Further, in order to establish a sustainable and self-continuous improvement culture, and to realize the vision to "become a world class operator" to MSC's employees as well as the outside world, MSC　as a whole company pursued the simultaneous certification.

 

 

Sumitomo has been operating MSC in line with its corporate mission of "achieving prosperity and realizing dreams through business activities". With the implementation of the international management standards, we are looking forward to MSC joining the league of world class mining companies with a further improvement on safety, and quality in operations, environmental stewardship, and enhancing its contribution to Bolivia's development through its mining operation.

This management system aims to achieve continuous improvement of work health and safety of an organization, in compliance with laws and regulations applied to companies and organizations.
