Barneys New York in Kobe―First Flagship Store Outside Tokyo Grand Opening: Friday, March 5, 2010 11:00 am
With a special collection by Agyness Deyn and Barneys

Barneys New York Kobe Store will have its grand opening on Friday, March 5, 2010. Launched by Barneys Japan Co., Ltd. (head office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; president: Naoki Nakamura), a joint subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; president: Susumu Kato) and a fund operated by Tokio Marine Capital Co., Ltd., (head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; president: Hideaki Fukazawa), the new store is the fourth Barneys in Japan and the first flagship store outside the Tokyo area.

Barneys New York, Inc. is one of the world's top specialty stores, and has pursued, ever since its foundation in 1923, the provision of an elegance experience for customers by offering an original selection of goods of refined taste, unique interior displays and quality service. Barneys Japan is working to further expand the brand by adding another Barneys to its three stores, in the Tokyo metropolitan area, in Shinjuku, and Yokohama and Ginza. The new shop, first flagship in the Kansai region, will open in a commercial complex named "Kobe Former Foreign Settlement 25," constructed as part of the redevelopment project of the historic zone in Motomachi, Kobe. The store occupies three floors of the building, which is connected to the high-rise section used as hotel facilities.

100120_01_img.jpgTo celebrate the opening of the Kobe store, Barneys Japan organized a special fashion collection in collaboration with Agyness Deyn, a British supermodel, under the title, "I AM by AGYNESS DEYN for BARNEYS GREEN." The collection will be unveiled February 27 at the Kobe Collection fashion show, and items from the collection will hit the shelves of the Kobe shop for the March 5 opening gala in advance of other stores. The special event is also part of Barneys New York's GO GREEN GO campaign that the fashion chain in the U.S. and Japan jointly promotes by incorporating environmental activities in their fashion business. In the latest version of the campaign, with each item purchased, part of the price is spent on planting a young tree in Inner Mongolia, thus shoppers can contribute to an afforestation program in the region.

Donating shoppers can confirm their contribution on Google Earth                   Agyness Deyn

to "do what we can to preserve our planet."
