Sumitomo Corporation signed with Saudi Aramco and SATORP
for the total ten billion Japanese Yen worth Communication Package of Manifa Crude Increment Oil Field Project and Jubail Export Refinery Project respectively
On 8 July 2009 at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Sumitomo Corporation (President & CEO: Susumu Kato Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) and Saudi Aramco (Saudi Arabian Oil Company) have signed a contract for a major communications package for Manifa Crude Increment Project.
Manifa Arabian Heavy Oil Filed Project is expected to build the facilities to produce Arabian Heavy crude oil and associated gas. This is part of the major crude oil increment projects for Saudi Arabia and one of the most significant projects for Saudi Aramco.
Sumitomo Corporation, as a main contractor, with subcontractors from several Saudi local companies, is responsible for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the systems including Communication Systems, Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition Systems/ Remote Terminal Units and Facilities.
Prior to Manifa communication project, Sumitomo Corporation has signed with Saudi Aramco Total Refining and PetroChemical Company (SATORP), the joint venture company of Saudi Aramco and Total, French oil major on July 7, 2009 at Dharan, Saudi Arabia, for a communication package for Jubail Export Refinery Project.
SATROP is shared by Aramco, which holds 62.5 per cent, and Total, which holds 37.5 per cent. SATORP plans to build world-class full-conversion Jubail Refinery and Petrochemical Complex project located in Jubail 2 Industrial City, Saudi Arabia to process 400,000 bpd heavy crude oil. The refinery will start operations in the second half of 2013.
Similarly, Sumitomo Corporation, as a main contractor, takes care of EPC of the systems including Communication Systems and Security Systems.
Sumitomo Corporation has a long term strong commitment to the development of the communication field in Saudi Arabia. Sumitomo Corporation has been working on the Khursaniyah Permanent Communication Project and King Abdullah University for Sciences and Technology (KAUST) Communication Project for Saudi Aramco since 2005. Sumitomo Corporation continues to look for up-coming large scale communications projects in Saudi Arabia.
