Sumitomo Corporation (President & CEO: Mr. Susumu Kato) has signed with Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) on 4 December 2007 at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, for the multi billion Japanese Yen worth project for King Abdullah University for Sciences and Technology (KAUST).

KAUST is being built in Saudi Arabia as an international, graduate-level research university dedicated to inspiring a new age of scientific achievement in the Kingdom that will also benefit the region and the world. KAUST is the realization of a decades-long vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

KAUST's core campus is located on more than 36 million square meters on the Red Sea at Thuwal, approximately 80 kilometers north of Jeddah City. KAUST, set to open in September 2009, will have the state-of-the art buildings, class rooms, a research center, a residential area, town center, sport facilities, golf course, harbor and so forth. The whole KAUST project is handled and managed by Saudi Aramco.

Sumitomo Corporation, as a main contractor, utilizes several Saudi local companies and takes care of Engineering, Procurement and Construction of the systems mentioned as follows:

• Communication Systems including Data Network System, Wireless Network System, Audiovisual & Videoconferencing System and FTTH

Sumitomo Corporation has a long term strong commitment to the development of the communication field in Saudi Arabia. Sumitomo Corporation has been working on the Khursaniyah Permanent Communication Project for Saudi Aramco since 2005. The KAUST communication project will be completed by the 3rd Quarter of the year 2009, and Sumitomo Corporation continues to look for up-coming large scale communications projects in Saudi Arabia.
