Following the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent tsunami of March 2011, the Sumitomo Corporation Group, recognizing that rebuilding the disaster-hit areas would take a considerable period of time, set a policy of long-term supporting the areas from the aspect of humanitarian aid and support for industrial recovery.
Believing that it is crucial to provide assistance according to the changing needs and situations of people in the disaster-affected areas, we have worked on the following initiatives based on the policy.
Sumitomo Corporation will provide long-term support for the reconstruction of disaster-affected areas through the Sumitomo Corporation Youth Challenge Program, which seeks to support young people who participate in the process of revitalizing eastern Japan.
Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation Tohoku Co., Ltd. are supporting the Kesennuma Shishiori Fisheries Processing Cooperative Association to help industrial reconstruction.
As part of its efforts to provide humanitarian aid to disaster-affected areas, Sumitomo Corporation has implemented a volunteer program for earthquake disaster reconstruction.
