Sumitomo Corporation to be presenting sponsor for 53rd PGA Senior Championship Sumitomo Corporation Summit Cup

Sumitomo Corporation will be the presenting sponsor for the 53rd PGA Senior Championship Sumitomo Corporation Summit Cup to be held October 9-12 this year at the Summit Golf Club (Ishioka, Ibaraki Prefecture) owned and operated by Yasato Kosan, Co. Ltd. of the Sumitomo Corporation Group. This tournament is the oldest on the senior tour hosted by the Professional Golfers' Association of Japan, and the most prestigious official tournament in Japan for senior professional golfers. Golfers 50 years of age or older who have competed on a variety of courses both at home and abroad will battle for the title of Japan's top senior professional.

Last year's championship, the first sponsored by Sumitomo Corporation, saw fierce competition, with Isao Aoki (71) achieving an "age shoot" on the first day by scoring under his age, while Tsukasa Watanabe beat out last year's winner Kiyoshi Murota to achieve his second victory in five years.

The venue's Gallery Plaza featured a stand operated by Miyagi Prefecture's Kesennuma Shishiori Fisheries Processing Cooperative Association, whose activities Sumitomo Corporation and Mitsui & Co., Ltd., have been jointly supporting as part of their efforts to assist post-Great East Japan Earthquake recovery. The stand did a brisk business in shark's fin soup, katsuo kakuni (skipjack boiled in soy sauce) and other seafood products.

Please check the Sumitomo Corporation website for further information and future notices about this tournament.
