The Media Division of Sumitomo Corporation has signed a sponsorship agreement with Consadole Sapporo, a Japan Professional Football League (J. League) team.
Consadole has been making proactive efforts to gain a presence in Asia, and is drawing increasing attention in Vietnam. The team has, for example, concluded partnership agreements with professional football teams in Vietnam, and has acquired the country's national football team player Le Cong Vinh on loan in July 2013.
Meanwhile, the Media Division of Sumitomo Corporation, which has been engaged in cable TV, program distribution, and movie-related businesses over 30 years in Japan, is currently drawing on its long-standing experience to promote its media business outside Japan, focusing mainly on Asian countries.
Based on this agreement, Sumitomo Corporation and Southern Steel Sheet Corporation (SSSC), a Vietnam-based company in which Sumitomo Corporation holds a stake, will be displaying advertisements in Vietnamese at Sapporo Dome when Consadole's home games are held on November 3, 10, and 24, 2013.
In addition, the Company will sponsor the match to be held on November 3, promoting the day as the Sumitomo Corporation Special Day. The Company will present the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award to the most prominent player of the day, as well as give out souvenirs to supporters at the game.
The partnership between Consadole and Sumitomo Corporation is anticipated to contribute to enhancing the recognition of the Company's business in Japan and Vietnam, as well as serve as an impetus to promote overseas advancement of the Company's Media Division.
Hirokatsu Mikami, General Manager of Consadole Sapporo, and Toshifumi Shibuya, Manager of Sumitomo Corporation's Media Division, shake hands.
The team name Consadole was coined by reading Dosanco (meaning "people born and bred in Hokkaido") backwards and adding the Latin suffix, "ole."
Under the club slogan of "Let's push the team and Hokkaido on the world stage," Consadole is striving to build a stronger global presence for the team and Hokkaido.
