Sumitomo Corporation's involvement with China has grown and evolved in step with the development of China itself, from the establishment of the People's Republic to the present day. We first started trade with China through our subsidiary in 1955. Now, we take part in wind power generation and other clean energy development projects in the country, while supporting the development of the next generation through a scholarship program established in 1996. We also host university lectures on corporate social responsibility, including the issue of environmental protection. In the past, Japan learned from and based itself on Chinese culture. Today, the country and its culture remain subjects of fascination for Japan. We look forward to continuing our work to build a long-standing relationship with China—a major power located across the sea—through business partnerships and human resources development.
