Sumitomo Corporation will mark its centennial year in 2019. Upon approaching this significant milestone, we have upheld a medium- to long-term vision of "What We Aim to Be in 2019, Our Centennial Year". We will build a strong foundation on which the Sumitomo Corporation Group can thrive stably and continuously for another 50 years, 100 years, and on without end.
To achieve "What We Aim to Be in 2019," we are working under our slogan "Be the Best, Be the One," which incorporates our intense desire to become the best company in every aspect and widely recognized by society for its irreplaceable offered value.
Sumitomo's Business Philosophy that has been passed down throughout its history to this day is expressed by the phrase "Benefit for self and others, private and public interests are one and the same," meaning that Sumitomo's business must not only benefit Sumitomo itself, but also bring benefit to the country and society it operates in. By creating value that nobody else can match in ways befitting our distinctive identity under the business philosophy, we will strive to be a corporate group recognized by all stakeholders including customers, business partners, and local communities as meeting and exceeding the high expectations directed towards us.
Under our new medium-term management plan "Be the Best, Be the One 2017" (BBBO2017) starting from this fiscal year, we will focus on "outline a path toward the realization of What We Aim to Be." We will carry out managerial reforms and overcoming various issues we are currently facing, while promoting growth strategies to build an even more solid earnings base. We will make group-wide efforts to swiftly return to a growth track and work vigorously toward realizing "What We Aim to Be in 2019".
