Each member of the Sumitomo Group is a company established and developed with respect to the businesses of the Sumitomo Family, about four hundred years of history. At present, the nineteen companies described below constitute the core of the Sumitomo Group.

While each of these companies operate independently, each has inherited the "Sumitomo Business Spirit" handed down over the years from the House of Sumitomo.
There is no overall "Sumitomo" entity; no one firm controls or influences another. (While the "Sumitomo Corporation" name is used in English, this is the English name of the Sumitomo trading firm.)
With only two exceptions, the above-mentioned 19 firms all have "Sumitomo" in their corporate name, and all use the same corporate symbol (the Igeta emblem). Each firm cooperates with the others to support and manage the Igeta symbol they bear in common.
Besides the 19 firms mentioned above, another 36 firms have deep ties to the Sumitomo Group, comprising the "Sumitomo Group Public Affairs Committee."
