Origin of the Sumitomo Emblem.

Company mark

Sumitomo developed the "Sumitomo igeta (well frame) mark" and the "Sumitomo kage (shadow) igeta mark" from the old igeta that has been used since ancient times in Japan. They were slightly altered to express a more modern image. These marks have been used for about ninety years, from the middle of the Meiji Era to the present day, as the emblems, trademarks, and company marks of Sumitomo. Both the "Sumitomo igeta mark" and the "Sumitomo kage-igeta mark" are easily distinguishable from the plain igeta mark, and are recognized by the public as symbols of the Sumitomo Group.
