Delivering earth and soil-friendly sugar to Japan and the world

Sumitomo Corporation imports the organic sugar produced by a Brazilian company, Native Produtos Orgânicos Ltda. (*1), and provides it to the Japanese market. Sugarcane is grown in Asian countries, too, but we focus on imports from the distant Latin America because we stick to organic cultivation. Koji Morinaga, deputy general manager of the Sweeteners & Beverages Dept. at our company says, "Sugarcane is a plant that can be utilized very efficiently. After sugar is extracted, sugar cane trash (bagasse) is burned in boiler to be used as energy, and the residues removed in the sugar production process are brought back to the fields for use as fertilizer."
